Welcome to
Mrs. Echt's 8th grade
English Language Arts Class
Welcome back to school!

Dear students and parents,
A new school year means a fresh start--a time to redefine yourself to be exactly who you want to be. You have the privilege to decide what kind of impact you want to make on the world.
During 8th grade, students will continue to grow as readers and writers while participating in various writing projects. Students will be required to read books of their choosing throughout the school year, as well as learn more sophisticated styles of writing through research projects and literary analysis essays.
I am excited that I will be teaching the Advanced 8 course again. This course is designed to follow the content of what the 9th graders learn, jumping the Advanced 8 students one year ahead in their English courses. (This allows Advanced students to take the Hudson Valley college course as 12th graders and earn college credit for free!)
It is an exciting time in education, with many changes being implemented at the National and State level in terms of curriculum expectations and student learning. Therefore, much of this year's texts and units will be new for Watervliet as we follow the new State curriculum guidelines. (Feel free to browse the Modules set up on EngageNY.org in order to preview what is coming up for students.)
Feel free to browse through the website to find updates on daily homework, long term assignments, upcoming projects, and more.
Thanks for checking out the site!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Echt
